Learn to Bowl in 10 Easy Steps

  1. Know the Objective: Roll your bowl so it stops closer to the small white ball (the jack) than your opponent’s bowls.

  2. Stand on the Mat: Place one foot on or over the mat when delivering the bowl.

  3. Pick the Right Bias: Each bowl curves because of its shape. Identify the bias (the side with the smaller symbol)

  4. Aim Your Line: Choose a wide, arcing line that allows the bowl to curve back toward the jack.

  5. Get Your Stance: Bend slightly, step forward smoothly, and keep your hand low.

6. Deliver the Bowl: Roll it gently—don’t throw. Keep your wrist firm and follow through.

7. Watch the Curve: Let the bias do the work as the bowl travels its path.

8. Adjust Weight: If you roll too short or too long, adjust your force next time.

9. Play All Your Bowls: Alternate deliveries with opponents until all bowls are played.

10. Score the End: Count how many of your bowls are closer to the jack than your opponent’s nearest bowl. Repeat for the next end.
