A uniquely Santa Cruz game is Turbo Bowls. Tournament director Glen Johnson organized Turbo 2 on May 22, 2009.

Winners were Greg Fyvie and Peter Young.

Rules of “Turbo”

    1. Use 4 bowls.
    2. Coin flip for position.
    3. Each round will begin with ringing of a bell - not before.
    4. Jack position will be fixed throughout the event at the 4 meter mark.
    5. Mat position is controlled by the winner of the coin flip or winner of the end.
    6. OK to check the head only after the 3rd bowl of the 4th end.
    7. Practice time ends at 9:30 am. No trial ends.
    8. All matchs are 4 ends.
    9. Standard scoring of one point for the closest bowl and one more point for each of that bowler's bowls closer that all of the opponent's bowls.
    10. No burnt ends- would count as an end but there would be no scoring.
    11. No marking of touchers. Bowls touching the jack and going into the ditch are alive. Ask for help from the umpire to mark the locations of same.
    12. In the event of a tie match there will be a one bowl roll off with a coin flip determining position. 13. Any decision by the umpire or director is final.
